The Race

Canadian Dollars

“The Race” reflects on Wrasse fish, more than 500 species of which are found throughout the world in tropical and temperate seas. Known for their vibrant and diverse colour patterning, wrasses are very beautiful, ranging in size from 2 inches to over 6 feet, depending on the species. Even within a single species they go through many color and pattern changes. Juveniles are usually a different color from females and adult males, which are different from each other. Juveniles initially mature into females and are able to change their sex to male which are more brightly colored than the females or juveniles. Most are elongated, relatively slender and fast moving. Wrasses are self-important "busy" fish with insatiable curiosity. Mainly carnivorous, they feed on small invertebrates, fish and food particles in the water. My Zenworks express my love of pen and ink and a desire to poetically meld abstract with imagery created through spontaneous strokes and repetitive patterns. Zenworks emerge via a tranquil, meditative process that frees me to explore and experiment with line, shape and colour.
