River West Artworks
Original Art, Artisan Works and Photographs by Jan Jenkins and Brian Erickson

My zenwork "Seven" celebrates the joy of life-long friendship and is a tribute to my reconnecting with friends from grade school during a summer retreat at Niagara On The Lake. In commemorating our gathering the first letter of each of our given names was incorporated along with other imagery in series of sevens. The number seven is a symbol of completeness, divine perfection, security, safety and rest. It is often considered lucky and deals with the activation of imagination and manifesting results in our lives through the use of conscious thought and awareness. It is about mystery, study, knowledge, seeking, thinking and searching for Truth. Seven stands for spirituality, the vertical connection between material and spiritual worlds, and spiritual transformation that leads to material transformation. My Zenworks express my love of pen and ink and a desire to poetically meld abstract with imagery created through spontaneous strokes and repetitive patterns. Zenworks emerge via a tranquil, meditative process that frees me to explore and experiment with line, shape and colour.
